Lady Madison awoke. She was inside, lying on one of the beds in the guest house. She was confused. When did she fall asleep? How did she get inside? The quest! She sat up and stumbled out of bed, landing with a vicious faceplant at Shalista's feet.
"Pretty clumsy this morning, huh?" Shalista asked. "I wouldn't have expected to see something like that from you."
"How long was I asleep?" Lady Madison asked.
"I don't know," Shalista said. "You were laid out when I woke up this morning. It wasn't easy getting your heavy corpse in here."
"You...carried me?"
Shalista nodded. "I couldn't let a body like that sleep on dirt."
She didn't like the sound of that. "You didn't do anything weird...like feel me up, did you?"
"My hand may have grazed you butt once or twice, but it was totally an accident."
Lady Madison grumbled. "Shalista…"
"What?" Shalista said. "I had to keep readjusting my grip because you're so heavy."
"Readjusting your grip, huh? That's bunk and you know it. You felt me up as I slept, pervert!"
"I'm sorry," Shalista said. "That butt was too good to resist. You can feel me up if you want. Then we'll call it even."
"I have no interest in fondling you," Lady Madison said, getting to her feet and dusting herself off. Looking around, she noticed everyone else was gone. "I take it everyone's standing watch."
"More or less."
Lady Iocasta came in with a plate of food. "Hey, sleepyhead. I'm glad you're awake. Now you can try the Lady Iocasta special. The farmer needed some help in the kitchen, so I lent my aid and this is what I came up with."
What was everyone else doing? "Maybe I'll try it later." She then went to the door and exited. Upon getting outside, she saw Wendy riding a horse. Lady Glinda and Cordelia had managed to get a ball and a few more women from somewhere for a game of soccer. Sophia was sunbathing with yet another woman.
This was Shalista's idea of keeping watch? Everyone was "What is going on here?" Lady Madison bellowed.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked her way with wide eyes. Even Wendy's horse.
"What's wrong?" Sophia asked.
"Everyone is having fun when we're supposed to be questing! What if the wolves came right now?"
"Then, we'd simply kick their butts," Shalista said, patting her on the shoulder. "The wolves aren't here, so consider this preparing for their arrival. By the way, a few other girls showed up."
"I noticed."
"I'm thinking about adding them to our group," Shalista said. "I wanted to run it by you and have you check them out before making a decision."
She didn't know who they were, where they came from, or when the got here. It couldn't help to get to know them. "Okay, round them up."
Shalista stepped forward and clapped. "Line up and introduce yourselves, newcomers."
The three woman came over. One was a dark-skinned woman with black hair done in shoulder-length braids. Another was very pale with extremely black hair done in pigtails. The last one was a petite woman with black hair that fell to just above her buttocks.
"Lady Audrixia," the dark-skinned woman said. "It is a pleasure to finally meet the one and only Lady Madison." Like Lady Madison, wore a large sword on her back.
"I'm Hilde," the pale-skinned woman said. "The only person I want to meet more than you is the God of Darkness." She had no weapons, but she did have a book, a sign that she was totally devoted to the ways of wizardry. She wasn't a master wizard, but she probably had a lot of skill.
The petite woman bowed, saying, "My name is Akiko. I may be small, but I am not to be underestimated. My assassination skills are second to none." She had a short sword hanging on each hip. Just judging by looks, she was probably a better assassin than Sophia, which would be quite the feat.
"Nice to meet you all," she said. Then, she said to Shalista, "This is quite a collection of characters you've accumulated."
"I know, right?" Shalista said. "They're all packing the goods, too. I checked them myself."
Lady Madison rolled her eyes. "Of course you did. Are you sure you're not attracted to women?"
"I would know if I was," Shalista said. "All I'm doing is admitting when a girl's got it."
"Need I remind you that you felt me up in my sleep?"
Shalista sucked her teeth. "You're still on that? Never mind. What do you think of the new girls?"
They seemed okay. "They can join if you want."
Shalista gave them the thumbs up. "You're in, girls."
Lady Audrixia, Hilde, and Akiko all gave each other high fives.
"But you're going to work," Lady Madison said. "No more sunbathing. No more horse riding. No more playing soccer."
Hilde walked up to her. "You wanna borrow my book?"
Gasp. Her biggest weakness. "Wait, isn't that your spellbook?"
"Pfft! Heck, no. It's just something I'm reading. I've outgrown spellbooks. I may be young, but I'm a high level wizard."
"Are you sure I can borrow it?"
"I'd be insulted if you didn't."
She took the book and skimmed through the first page. This was an interesting read to be sure. She needed to sink her teeth into this. "As you were. Let me know if you see any wolves."
